I’ve been teaching guitar for a few years. For those who don’t know, I teach lessons in the homes of my students.
This means that I travel around the Annapolis and Anne Arundel county area….
a lot.
I know the roads really well and I can time my arrival to my students’ homes within minutes (barring any crazy traffic).
I know when to take Ritchie and when to take 97, or even sneak up General’s highway.
I know when to take the the Severn River bridge (50) or when to take the Old/New Severn River bridge by the Naval Academy.
And even with all this crazy travel and traffic…. I still love teaching lessons in Annapolis.. Here’s why…..
The Water
The water. Seriously, how lucky are we (am I) that we have access to such amazing scenery. Even on cold gray January days, we still get to see some awesome water views… this is especially true when I get to visit Bay Ridge or Hillsmere for guitar lessons. Which brings me to my next point…
It Was (and is) My Home
Annapolis was (and is) my home. For most of my childhood I lived in Hillsmere and then later off of Ferry Point road. I have only positive memories of those times, exploring the woods, playing nintendo, trick or treating, and just doing kid stuff. I feel so lucky that I can observe that nostalgia so easily… just by driving to my lessons.
Downtown Annapolis
Downtown Annapolis. The other day I had an early morning lesson and I cut through the downtown area. No tourists. No traffic. Just a glorious summer morning… blue sky, no humidity (seriously). At key moments… the city can’t be beat.
This is a Music Town
This is a music town. Rams Head (where I used to work and perform), Stan and Joe’s (where I used to perform), Maryland Hall, Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival, Silopanna (RIP), and just about every single bar downtown has live music.
103.1 WRNR
WRNR. It’s gone through changes over the years but they still crank out some decent tunes (also… I got to be featured on WRNR like 15 years ago… I still have the recording somewhere… I was famous!).
(Jake Posko does in-home guitar lessons in the Annapolis, Maryland area including: Annapolis, Edgewater, Severna Park, Pasadena, Crownsville, Arnold and Kent Island, inquire about lessons by e-mailing him at jake@jakeposko.com).
